Workaway

I will post another day about our previous experiences...right now I will talk about today's experiences. As we have been in Egypt for nearly a month and for the past 2 weeks volunteering at a farm in Nuweiba, which I will also write about another time... After 2 weeks working without a break and with our Visas about to expire, we have decided to spend a few days in Jordan and come back to Egypt. We thought taking the ferry at Nuweiba port would be a straight forward experience. Turns out it wasn't. We wanted to make sure to get a ticket, so around 9am we were at the ticket office. They told us, that to buy the return ticket to Aqaba we had to pay for it in dollars, only the one way ticket can be paid in Egyptian pounds. So, we went on a quest to try to buy dollars. After enquiring all banks if we could buy dollars and with negative responses, we decided to buy a one way ticket which costs E£ 2050,00 each. We were told the ferry would leave at 2pm, even though the website says it leaves at 12pm. We were told to be at the port 1:30pm...in the meantime Stephen found a restaurant nearby on the beach. Walking towards it, a camel starts following us. After walking we found the place, which looked from the outside nothing like a good place to be. The receptionist takes copies of our passports and turns out the place was great and for our fortune had beer! Around 12pm we started heading to the port, but we were told to come back at 2pm. We saw a little place selling falafel in pita bread and took a seat. We told we wanted 2 falafel, a lot going on around, but nobody seemed to really care or understand what was going on. After a while later and a photo request of Stephen by the boy from the joint, the falafels never came... we ask again and they come with an apology. As there were many people outside the post waiting for the ferry, we decided to wait for them to make a move before heading there. Around 4pm, they call us into the port. A lot of security checks and passport controls. We seat in this air conditioned waiting room, where everybody is smoking and waiting for some movement. 3 hours later we were finally called into the ferry and here we are still waiting to sail off to Jordan.
